Level Measurements - Water Level

A common application is the measurement of the liquid level in a closed or open top tank. These applications range from benign open top tanks in clean environments to severe process environments involving high temperature and pressures, caustic or hazardous materials. Sensors are useful in benign and mildly challenging environments and a variety of support accessories are available including displays, transducers and splashguards. Ultrasonic Sensors should not be used in severe environments involving pressure, high temperatures, or hazardous or incompatible materials.

Solid Level

Dry material level in bins or hoppers can be measured if the materials provide sufficient ultrasonic echo for reliable detection. Some materials absorb sound, while others are easily detected. The incline of the material must also be such that a proper sound echo is obtained at those times when the level measurement is required.

Waste Liquid Level

Waste water treatment produces enormous amounts of sewage sludge on a daily basis. This waste product has to be processed or properly disposed of. Either way, it is necessary to load the sewage sludge into appropriate transport containers. Ultrasonic sensors monitor the process to prevent overfilling of the containers.

Mud Level

Mud, as a coolant for drilling as well as insulating boreholes, plays an important role in opening up new oil and gas deposits.

Anti-Collision Detection On Aerial Work Platforms

Drivable aerial work platforms are common on many construction sites. These platforms facilitate working in high locations and increase productivity. However, since severe accidents involving aerial work platforms may occur due to collisions, the safety aspect should not be ignored.

Non-Contact Level Sensors Application

Non-contact level sensors can be implemented in air/gas and have the capability to measure the level of solid medium. These sensor types are also suitable for use in harsh or difficult industrial applications where it is favorable to keep the sensor remote from aggressive or abrasive media.

Non-contact Level Masurement in Open Channels

The quantity of effluent that enters a sewage plant is an important criterion for effective control of the complex system. It determines the amount of air needed in the aeration basin. The air controls the activity of the bacteria that break down the contaminating substances. To keep the sensors from getting soiled due to the high solid content of the waste water, a non-contact measurement of the flow volume is usually recommended.
